A nanotechnology-based weapon capable of destroying an entire city is created by weapons expert James McCullen (Christopher Eccleston) in the near future. His company MARS sells four warheads to NATO, and the U.S. Army is tasked with delivering the warheads. Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) are delivering the warheads when they are ambushed by the Baroness (Sienna Miller), who Duke recognized to be his ex-fiance Ana Lewis. Duke and Ripcord are rescued by Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). The warheads are taken to The Pit, G.I. Joe's command center in North Africa, and upon arriving rendezvous with General Hawk (Dennis Quaid), the head of the G.I. Joe Team. Hawk takes command of the war-heads and excuses Duke and Ripcord, only to be convinced to have them join his group after it is revealed that Duke & Baroness know each other.

The G.I. Joe team travels the world from the Egyptian desert to the polar ice caps and the streets of Paris in a high stakes pursuit of COBRA, an evil international organization threatening to use a technology that could bring the world to its knees. Armed with the coolest hi-tech gadgets and weapons, including jaw-dropping accelerator and camouflage suits, G.I. JOE is the last line of defense against those intent on world domination

The filming of this movie began on February 11, 2008, in Los Angeles, California. The Downey sound-stage was chosen as Paramount needed a large stage to get production underway as soon as possible. Downey also housed Destro's MARS base in the Arctic, his legitimate weapons factory in an ex-Soviet state, as well as various submarines interiors, including a SHARC (Submersible High-speed Attack and Reconnaissance Craft) manned by two G.I. Joes. The first two levels of the Pit were built there, to complement the rest of the building which would be done with special effects.

Digital Domain which handled the Paris action, sequences and the opening convoy sequence was the most prominent of the six different visual effects companies who worked in The Rise of Cobra. For the Eiffel Tower destruction, a special code for depicting how the crumbling metal works was written. The technicians had access to the original building plans, and built a digital model so complex that could not fit in a single file to create the digital Eiffel Tower. The nanomites used two different proprietary software for their depiction, one by Digital Domain, and another by, which also created tools to generate 3D cloud and sky environments for the aerial scenes. The landing platform of the Pit, the Cobra ice caverns, and the final underwater battle were the scenarios which were almost fully developed by computer-generated imagery.

Southern California's Del Mar Racetrack has been somewhat forgotten by the general public in recent years, overshadowed by East Coast venues like Churchill Downs and Belmont Park. The reality is that the 72 year old track has a history to rival their better known counterparts. Operated by the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club and located 20 miles North of San Diego, its perhaps most famous for its iconic slogan "Where The Surf Meets the Turf" but that only scratches the surface of its star studded history.

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club was founded by a group of well heeled enthusiasts in the mid'30s, and they immediately turned their attention to building a world class horse racing venue. The names that were instrumental in the creation of Del Mar include a whos who of American entertainment--most notably Bing Crosby, Oliver Hardy (of Laurel and Hardy) and Jimmy Durante. At the time the facility opened thoroughbred horse racing was the second most popular sport in America behind major league baseball, and Del Mar quickly gained a reputation for being a player in the industry.

Additionally, the star power involved with the project also provided a trendy cachet that the tonier race courses back East lacked. Bing Crosby himself greeted patrons at the gate on opening day, and during the late'30s and early'40s it became a place to be seen for Hollywood A-listers and those who aspired for celebrity. In addition to known gambling enthusiasts like W.C. Fields, Edgar Bergen and Red Skelton, the Del Mar patrons during that time also included some of the top female stars of the era including Ava Gardner, Paulette Goddard and Dorothy Lamour.

Del Mar was the site of the'38 match race between Seabiscuit and Ligaroti. The postwar prosperity was also a boon to Del Mar, which also benefitted from the Santa Fe Railroads daily Racetrack Special that brought bettors down from Los Angeles to enjoy a day at the track. During the latter part of the decade a new crop of Hollywood glitterati would flock to Del Mar, including Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Mickey Rooney and Jimmy Durante. Durante would become such a regular that the turf course at Del Mar would later be renamed in his honor.

The annual race meet at Del Mar remains a highlight of the summer to this day. Del Mar remains one of the top tracks in the country, and have recently upgraded their facility with a state of the art grandstand and was one of the first tracks to install a new synthetic racing surface.

For example, in a matchup between a championship level team and a losing team you often see strongly divergent approaches to the game. Rodgers threw two first half touchdown passes which was complimented by four Mason Crosby field goals as Green Bay improved to 3-2 on the season. The Lions slumped to 1-5 with the loss.

For the Lions, their quarterback woes continued. Backup Daunte Cullpepper injured his hamstring in the third quarter and was replaced by the Lions' third string quarterback Drew Stanton. Cullpepper is now listed as 'questionable' on the official NFL injury report. After the game, he talked about Detroit's lack of offense:

"It's very disappointing, very frustrating. It's embarrassing to me not to be able to move it on the field and get points on the board. We've got to figure out a way to do that, simple as that."

The Packers will play on the road this Sunday, heading to Cleveland to face the Browns. The game is currently off the board as linemakers try to get a handle on the personnel impact of the Browns' struggle with a flu bug making its way through the locker room. Green Bay will host the Minnesota Vikings the following Sunday followed by a trip to Tampa Bay on November 8. Detroit has a bye this weekend and will return to action as they host the St. Louis Rams on November 1. They'll play their next two on the road, with games in Seattle and Minnesota.

Vibram Fivefingers are unique. They're the only shoes I've ever seen that have individual toe spaces - and they are definitely a talking point. Whenever I'm wearing them, children stop in the street to stare, and they make fantastic footprints.

In fact, I wore my Vibrams - as I liked to call them, though perhaps Five Fingers would have been a better name - when I walked the West Highland Way in Scotland. As you can imagine, the Vibram shoes left distinctive marks in the Scottish mud, leading to rumours of a Bigfoot somewhere along the route. The stories were getting wilder and wilder, until someone finally noticed what I was wearing on my feet. I think everyone was a little disappointed to find out that there was no Bigfoot, and that it was only me.

There are different styles and colours of Vibram Five Finger shoes. I opted for the rather staid black ones, though I was tempted by the grey/orange combo. Sometimes it looked as if I'd just stepped in tar, because they mould well to the foot. Getting your toes into each individual toe hold can take a little getting used to, but in general it wasn't too hard.

I expected to be able to use my regular Vibrams in the water, but they tended to fall off. The shoe doesn't cover the whole foot, in fact it just covers the toes and heel. There is a version that has a strap to prevent this, and a full-foot one as well, that's suitable for climbing.

They like them because it's like running barefoot, except that you don't run the risk of getting your feet cut up on broken glass or other hazards. It starts with going to someone's home and using their bathroom. All is fine until you flush the toilet and you see it start to clog up and start to back up. You notice there is no plunger. Now the panic. You start to talk to the toilet urging it not to back up. You have one option only at this point the comic says... You have to burn down the house so no one discovers you clogged the toilet.

You know what you have to do the comedian says; you have to burn the house down before anyone finds out you backed up the toilet. Did you ever see the movie Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels?

There was a scene of a plumbing emergency if there ever was one. Jim Carrey and Daniels are both after the same girl. Before his date with her Carrey a bottle of laxative into Daniel's drink and as he is on his way to meet her at her house he fills his stomach and the rest of his body start to rumble.

By the time he arrives at her house he is ready to explode. He finds a bathroom and starts to relieve himself. He is so glad he found a toilet. Then he hears his date say from outside the door that the toilet does not flush, it is broken. Talk about a plumbing emergency.

One time I created a plumbing emergency. I tried to fix the leak in my bathroom sink. I figured it was a plumber with the washer. I knew I had to shut off the water supply before I started working on it. I looked under the sink and no shut off valve. I went outside the house and no shut off valve. I looked in the yard but no shut off valve. I new if I shut off the main meter out by the street the water company had to come and turn it back on so I did not want to do that.

So in my genius I decided that I could probably fix the faucet without turning off the water supply. I went back in and took a wrench and started turning the ball bearing on the faucet handle. It did not give at first. But with more pressure I felt it loosen. I thought great I will have this fixed in no time. I turned it a few more times and felt it give.

Suddenly the fixture exploded and a fountain of cold water drenched me. The water was shooting off the ceiling and showering me with cold water. I scrambled for the part that blew off. I found it by the toilet. With the water raining down on me I shoved the part back in and started to turn it back in.

I found it again on the floor and with determination I shoved it back into the faucet and was able to twist and tighten it with my wrench back into place. I caught my breath and called a plumber.

Fate Stay Night the Japanese Anime TV Series is to Be Released, But Will Everyone Like It?

A lot of people enjoy anime but for some it can be a real bore. However, there are some anime TV series' that are suitable for everyone (within reason) and that has to be said about Fate Stay Night. It's about to be released on DVD - only the first four episodes - and it's likely to be a huge success with young and old. However, there are a few things you should know before you buy the DVD. MVM are releasing the DVD on the 4th of January 2010 and it's going to be quite a bit release. MVM are one of the only companies who release Japanese anime in the UK and they've built quite a good reputation in the last few years. Japanese anime is always good for a laugh but sometimes the story lines can be a bit boring.

Well, Fate Stay Night is certainly not a boring story. I've had the pleasure of watching the first four episodes and without giving too much away; it follows the story of a young master called Shirou who ends up being involved in a massive war of the worlds. It's all about the Holy Grail and the powers that it supposedly possesses.

However, there are other characters who are also in the fight to get their hands on it and Shirou finds himself involved with something much larger than he first thought. It's a great story and there are a lot of action scenes and plenty of exciting plot lines. However, it won't be suitable for children.

It's going to be rated 15 as far as I remember and this means that anyone under this age will have to wait until their birthday roles around. It's certainly a DVD that I'd recommend but as usual with anime, it won't be everyone's cup of tea. Fate Stay Night is certainly one of the best though.

The new DVD will feature the first four episodes: The First Day; Fateful Night; Opening Act; The Strongest Enemy and is likely to be very popular with anime fans throughout the world. Having said that, it's not going to be to everyone's liking but if you know someone who will love it then you'll be pleased to hear that it's available as of the 4th of January 2010.

There is a solution. Just make a toy box from a storage tub made of plastic. They come in all kinds of colors and sizes and if you do not like the look at them you can change that in an instant. Plastic tubs are a great alternative because children can not hurt themselves on any sharp angles. Hinged toy boxes have a habit of the lid falling and crunching little one's fingers. Tubs have lids that are removed so there is no danger there. Precocious children will try to climb into a toy box and sometimes the lid will crash down and they can not get out. In a plastic tub they just have to push on the lid and it will pop right open.

Plastic tubs can be decorated in several easy and inexpensive ways to make them more appealing to children. Many different things can be glued on them like stickers or decals. You can make figures from craft foam or felt and glue them on or you can use paint or fabric. Kids can even help you make the toy box and they will enjoy that time you spent with them. The tubs need little care and they won't scratch like wooden ones do when they run their toy truck across the top without the wheels.

Painting the tub is an option but if you spray paint the whole thing the paint will chip and peel in time causing an issue for little kids. Tubs come in all colors so there should be no reason to paint the whole thing. You can use acrylic paint to paint flowers or other fun forms on the tub. Stencils used with acrylic paint can make a fun toy box too. Paint yellow ducks on a blue tub, sheep on a purple tub and even fire trucks on a black tub. Stencils are plentiful and there are many made with children in mind. There are even alphabet letters and you can stencil the child's name on their specific tub.

To make your own fun figures to stick on your tub go to the crafting store and get craft foam in either sheets or in pre cut figures. Most foam comes with adhesive on the back and you just have to remove the paper backing and stick them on. You can adorn the figures with other foam or paint them with the pointy nozzle of fabric paint. To make a lady bug motif cut out two circles, one in black and one in red. Divide the red one in half and place it over the black on separating the two red halves to show a wedge of black in between them. This is the black body and the red wings. Cut another black circle then cut again using only a fourth of it. Stick this to the red and black circles at the top where the wings meet. This is the head. Add some black circles for dots on the wings and cut out some white circles for eyes. Once the lady bug is made your child can help you apply them to the tub.

You can do the same thing with felt. You can buy felt squares in the craft store that have adhesive backing as well. Some felt squares are floppy and soft and there are some that are rigid. The rigid ones work best because they won't flop down if the adhesive on the back gives way. If the felt does not have adhesive just buy a can of adhesive spray to stick them on the tub. Spray the area in which you want to put the felt figure and the adhesive will dry and you won't even notice it is there. Use cookie cutters as guides to make your felt characters. Just place the cookie cutter down on the felt and draw around it with a marker or pencil. Use a teddy bear cookie cutter and cut out several brown or beige bears. Cut out a small round circle and place it in the center of the head area, this is the bear's muzzle. You can use fabric glue to stick this on your main felt figure. You can use a small black pompom or cut out a small black circle to glue just above the center middle of this circle for the nose. Use a marker to make a mouth. Cut out two black eyes out of felt and glue them on above and to each side of the circle.

Fabric can be used to cover the tub completely. Cut fabric to fit around all sides of the tub and make sure to push it up underneath the lip. Fabric will unravel and you can stop that from happening by using pinking shears or squirting on substance that will prevent it from unraveling called no fray. Use your spray adhesive and careful roll the fabric onto the tub. It is possible to cut the fabric in sections and stick it on. Do the lid too but never cover the edges, just the middle part. Covering the edges will not allow it to snap onto the tub.
