Building Muscle Mass Even When You Are Over 40

By Steven P Esquire

Are you over the hill at 40? While it is true that you metabolism slows down as we age, this does not prevent you from improving your muscle mass when you are over 40 years old. There are a number of ways you can increase your metabolism with the help of diet, exercise and even massage therapy. If you are looking to improve your muscle mass, then you need to plan your diet to support your body. Building up muscle mass requires working out your muscles. Massage therapy helps to improve both warm up prior to exercise and warm down of muscles after exercise.

As we age and our metabolism slows down we also tend to lose muscle mass. Because of this slowing metabolism in the middle years we also tend to lack much needed energy to help control it. This can leave us prone to the mid-life tire. Unfortunately, this is entirely normal.

Getting older causes our bodies to slow down the metabolic rate through time. This can lead to the build up of more fat and the loss of muscle mass. There are ways to increase your metabolism which can help to reduce fat and to increase muscle mass.

The challenge to improving your muscle mass over 40 is that you have to work harder to get above a slower metabolic rate. If you work hard and push yourself, you can get your metabolism going to build up more muscle mass. One important key is that muscles burn more calories than fat which helps to increase the metabolic rate.

Start with your diet. It is best to work with a nutritionist. Find out the right combination of foods and supplements to help you build up mass. Dont try to change your diet from one extreme to another. Start off slowly and establish a balanced approach.

Exercise needs to target specific areas for building up muscle mass. Like any exercise, do not over focus on certain muscles. Remember your body is a machine and it must work together to be effective. Establish your routine and build your strength. Exercise helps to increase your metabolism.

As you start to exercise, you will feel muscles you may not have felt for a long time. Add massage therapy to your routine to help soothe your muscles after a hard work out. Massage chairs are particularly convenient and can be used before and after your work out. Warm up your muscles with a massage chair and then warm down after. This will soothe and relax you.

Some men and especially women are hesitant to build muscle mass. They fear that they are adding bulk. Some think this may make them more man-ly. Interestingly, this is not possible because women lack the needed testosterone at high levels. A woman will more than likely just gain some curves, which hardly makes them more masculine. So ladies do not fear having muscles!

Always start with the basic to start gaining muscle mass over 40. Your body will take longer to get where you want and you will have to work harder. Keep things simple and focus on your diet, exercise program and getting massage therapy. A massage chair can be an excellent asset in keeping fit and feeling good over 40 years old.

Do you have the determination to improve your muscle mass? You can certainly do it. Just realize that you have to work harder at it to increase your metabolism. You will not achieve results in one week. You have to stick with it and over a 2 to 3 month period you will see results. Stick to your diet, exercise program and massage chair therapy and you will feel increases in energy and much greater strength than you have in years.
