Defiance: An abrasive little film in reference to rootless blue-collar hermit Vincent, who tries to match up his dying kid's bone marrow to his own. He then tames a ferocious N.Y.C. street gang. Cast includes Jan-Michael Vincent, Craft Camey, Theresa Saldana, and Danny Aiello. (102 minutes, 1980)

Shadowboxer: Hit lady Mirren and her companion Gooding have an irregular personal and working relationship, however he's unprepared for her to make the decision she does when proposed with a task that requires her to shoot a young pregnant woman. The 2 megastars are at their extreme best in this highly unconventional, sleeper film, best taken as stylized storytelling and not as a cut of genuine life. Cast includes Helen Mirren, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Stephen Dorff, Vanessa Ferlito, and Macy Gray. (93 minutes, 2006)

The Sins of Lola Montes: An intense melodrama set in Belgian Congo with Dickinson a missionary nurse engaged in romance and local clashes. Cast includes Angie Dickinson, Peter Finch, Roger Moore, Woody Strode, Rafer Johnson, Juano Hernandez, Mary Wickes, and Scatman Crothers. (124 minutes, 1961)

Hope and Glory: An admiring glance back at British family life throughout the first years of WW2 as seen through the eyes of a youthful boy to whom everything is an incredible venture. Cast includes Sarah Miles, David Hayman, Derrick O'Connor, Susan Wooldridge, Sammi Davis, Ian Bannen, Sebastian Rice-Edwards, Jean-Marc Barr, and Annie Leon. (113 minutes, 1987)

Deep Red: There's style to burn in pointless terror thriller with Hemmings on the trail of a sadistic psycho murderer. Showy, weird scenes set to beating rock soundtrack. Cast includes David Hemmings, Daria Nicolodi, Gabriele Lavia, Macha Meril, and Glauco Mauri. (98 minutes, 1975)

Last summer: A commanding tale based on Evan Hunter novel of adolescents playing on the shore in a summer resort. The film follows their games, sensual awakenings, and how evil materializes itself with incredible determination. Cathy Bums was a standout. Cast includes Richard Thomas, Barbara Hershey, Bruce Davison, Cathy Burns, Ralph Waite, and Conrad Bain. (97 minutes, 1969)

Lightning the White Stallion: An incredibly weak family fare with Rooney a prosperous guy whose racehorse is stolen. Cast includes Mickey Rooney, Isabel Lorea, Susan George, and Billy Wesley. (95 minutes, 1986)

Side Out: College kid comes to Southern California for a summer job removing tenants for his sleazy uncle although as an alternative ends up joining with one of his potential victims for the final shore volleyball match. The sand and sun are the lone highlights of this no brainer which alleges to be the first big screen film in regards to volleyball. Cast includes Thomas Howell, Peter Horton, Courtney Thome-Smith, Harley Jane Kozak, Christopher Rydell, Terry Kiser, Randy Stoklos, Sinjin Smith, and Kathy Ireland. (100 minutes, 1990)

Semi-Tough: A carefree comedy in reference to 2 football megastars and their lady friend that drifts too much to hit some chief points however it does have some funny scenes. Reynolds' charm makes up for film's other deficiencies. Cast includes Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson, Jill Clayburgh, Robert Preston, Bert Convy, Lotte Lenya, Roger E. Mosley, Richard Masur, Carl Weathers, Brian Dennehy, and Ron Silver. (108 minutes, 1977)
