The Spooky Haunted House Mission in Poptropica

By Parker Simpson

The Poptropica Haunted House is a fun and exciting mini-quest that is only available for a limited time in the popular online game. It was launched in early October, 2009 to celebrate Halloween. In this cool mini-quest, you must enter a haunted house and locate six items while overcoming obstacles and solving puzzles along the way. At the end, if you are successful in getting all of the items, you will gain entry to a fun Halloween themed party.

The very first thing you need to do is start the mission! You can do this by clicking on the promotion for the Haunted House mission on the main Poptropica map. You'll arrive at a scary looking graveyard with lots of tombstones. Walk over to the left to get to the Haunted House. It's locked and you need to get inside through the cellar door on the left. But first you need to steal the key from the bat who is flying around. Jump up on the house and head to the roof where you can catch the bat and take the key from him. Once you have it, click on the cellar door to go inside.

Inside the cellar you'll see a furnace, a boiler, and a bunch of disconnected pipes between them. To solve this puzzle, rotate the pipe pieces by clicking on them until they connect the boiler to the furnace. When this happens, the boiler will turn on and start shooting steam up into the air. Now, jump up into the steam and it will launch you high in the air up to a small platform where you'll find a red bottle of Draught of the Dead. This is the next item you need so pick it up.

Now you'll want to head inside the house to get the only items. The inside of the house is really spooky! There are a few things you need to get in here. The first is some ice cubes. Open the refrigerator to get the ice but you'll see you need something to chip it out. Head upstairs to where you see the two knight statues. Jump on the head of the one holding the big pickaxe and it will drop it. Then pick it up and take it back to the refrigirator to get the ice.

The next item you can get is the lantern. Go to the bedroom upstairs on the left and click on the clocks on the fireplace mantle. These two clocks need to be set so that they both strike midnight at the same time. When they each strike midnight, a skull pops out like a jack in the box. You want to make both skulls pop up at the same time. You can make one clock move faster and "catch up" by putting your mouse over it. It will glow green while this is happening and the clock will move much faster. Move the cursor off when it catches up to the other one. Keep adjusting the clocks until they are perfectly in sync. When they both strike midnight together, you'll get the lantern.

Next you're ready to adventure into the attic. To get up there you need to go through the hole in the ceiling in the dining room. But you can't jump up there. The way to do it is to click on the spider on the floor. He will drop down and scare the witch in the painting. She will drop her broom and then you can go pick it up and fly on it. This will allow you to enter the attic. On the far left of the attic there is a chest on the floor. Click on it and you will see a slider puzzle with a skull picture on it. Watch carefully as the pieces move and then repeat the moves you saw in reverse order. This will return the picture to normal and you'll get the chalice, which is your last item.

Now go back downstairs and talk to the ghost cat you see. He will tell you to light the lanterns. Go into the cellar and find the barrel of kerosene. Click on it to light the lantern and then return to the cat. Then he'll tell you to bring all the treasures to where the cherub cries. He is talking about the statue of the crying angel outside in the graveyard. Go there and click on the hole in the ground that appeared next to this statue. You'll arrive at a Halloween party and it looks like they've been waiting for you!

Now that you're at the party, which is called the Ghoul's Gala, you get 50 Poptropica credits and you can hang out and enjoy all the costumes and refreshments. Don't forget to use your costumizer feature to copy any of the Halloween costumes you see and wear them around Poptropica to celebrate.
