How To Find The Best Saltwater Reels

By Ron Hampton

If you are going to land that great big fish as a serious deep sea fisherman, then you clearly have to have saltwater reels. This means that you can be one of the few fishermen that do not have to talk about the one that got away.

While there is a host of reels to choose from, don't just get any old one. Make sure that you think about the fish that you want to catch and make your choice based on this criterion. If you are a marlin specialist, your reel will be different to that of a person who wants to go out after tuna.

A few examples of saltwater reels include the saltwater spinning reel which is by far the most popular reel used by saltwater fishermen. Within the spinning reel selection you get ultra-light spinning reels which are used for very light fish, light spinning reels which are used mainly for catch and release fishing and the heavy spinning reels which are used predominantly in surf and deep sea fishing.

Another example of a reel would be a conventional reel, lever drag reels and even bait casting ones. You will see that when you look at pictures of them there are so many similarities between them. But what is of the most importance is the subtle differences because these determine when you would use one reel over another. If you are going to go for a bigger fish then you will find that you have a bigger reel. This is demonstrated with the big game reel and the lever drag reel with the lever being more suited for smaller fish.

While all of these saltwater reels differ slightly, they all serve one main purpose and that is to make sure that the biggest fish is caught at the end of that line.

It seems that the sport of catch and release is becoming more popular these days, but you can bet your bottom dollar that even if they do release the fish, those who are involved in catching it are going to make sure that they tell you all about it.

Understanding your specific requirements is something that an experienced professional will be able to help you with. So don't be shy in going to speak with them, they can do you a great service. They will help you choose the best in saltwater reels.
