Are There Differences Between the Blends of Different Size Cigars in the Same Line?

By Dave Sabot

Something that you will hear when you begin smoking cigars is that there is a difference in the blends of tobacco used in different size cigars, even though the cigars are part of the same line. Is this true, or is it one of those myths surrounding cigars? If it were true, why would cigars from the same line have a different blend? Does it offer a different taste to the cigar? Actually, it is true that they used different blends, and the taste can be different. They use different blends for several reasons.

Size is the most important factor when it comes to the reason cigar blends in the same line differ. A smaller cigar, which is shorter and more narrow, will have a different taste than a large cigar in the same line. When you have a smaller cigar, you are going to get more taste of the wrapper for one thing. Also, you will simply not have the same ratio of tobacco to wrapper and binder as you would with a larger cigar unless the manufacturer changes the blends slightly.

You will find that in the larger cigars, even though they might be in the same line, they simply have more of the tobacco than the smaller ones do. You will find that the ratios may vary slightly between the large and the small, and this is something that will account for the difference in taste. Many times the taste difference is subtle, but one who has been smoking cigars for any length of time should be able to pick out the difference.

The more you smoke cigars, the better you will become at finding these differences. In some cases, you might even be able to spot the differences without even lighting the cigar. You can simply look at the blend and figure out how it will probably taste.

You will find that many factors can influence the taste of a cigar, and that is one of the reasons that so many people enjoy smoking them. You will be able to find something that you like, no matter your preference and you will discover plenty of other styles, sizes, and blends that you can try to you can expand your knowledge. It is a very rewarding pastime, and one that is relaxing as well.
