Sanyo VPC-E2 Review

By Ed J Price

Does anyone remember those classic documentary television programs of the 1970s? When they would venture underwater, some of the film footage was odd to say the least. The reason for this is they were limited to using old 16mm film cameras that were encased in plastic bubbles. Mercifully, we have come a long way and now there is the Sanyo VPC-E2.

The Sanyo Xacti camcorder is one of the best underwater and waterproof camcorders available in the market. If you are an active individual who loves spending time outdoors, this camcorder may be the perfect camcorder or underwater digital camera for you. Especially if you spend a lot of time taking adventures in the deep blue sea.

Other Important Features

What makes the Sanyo Xacti camcorder such an excellent camera? Really, there are scores of features that allow this particular model to shine above others in the field. The Sanyo VPC-E2 is able to record video roughly 5 feet below the surface although some have had excellent results going even deeper. The camera is limited however, to 30 minutes of video recording so one needs to keep this in mind when diving. The Sanyo VPC-E2 can take multitudes of still frame photographs which can certainly be performed for longer than the aforementioned 30 minutes.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Of course, this camcorder is completely waterproof and comes with a 5x optical zoom. This means you do not always have to get up close and personal with your subject matter. Sometimes, that can be a good thing! The Sanyo Xacti camcorder also comes with a 2.5 inch LCD display that is absolutely crystal clear. This is also a very lightweight camera that is perfect for those who do not want to lug a heavy camera on their adventures. The camera is easy to use and merely involves following what is on the onscreen display and hitting the record function. However, there have been a few consumer concerns regarding the visual display.

In other words, little more than a few consumers are concerned about the camera's electronic image stabilization. This is because the image is sometimes what the image is captured one of the few complaints about the crop will lead to less than one would prefer to see. Similarly, the audio properties of the camera have been made an issue out of several consumers. According to them, it is not as clear or sharp as they would have preferred it to be. Despite the presence of these minor flaws, this is already an excellent device with many positive benefits.

The price of this Sanyo Xacti camcorder is a fair one as well. At under $200, this is quite affordable for those who need a basic underwater camcorder that can provide uncomplicated shooting with a minimal of effort. That alone makes this the perfect camcorder for those who enjoy shooting. Whether you want to take underwater video or still photos, the Sanyo VPC-E2 is an excellent device. It delivers on all its expectations in a simple to use and affordable package. Really, could you ask for a better deal?
